Configure Delivery by changing MX Records

MX Records or Mail eXchanger Records are the DNS Records of your domain, which the other servers refer to for email delivery to your domain. The emails to your domain are delivered to those servers where the domain's MX Records point to.  MX Records are the resource entries in your domain’s DNS, which transmit the Email server information to the other DNS Servers in the web.  If you change the MX Records of your domain to point to a server, the entire email delivery would be delivered to the address you have added in the MX entries.

You can start receiving emails to your Domain after you have created all the user accounts and required Email addresses. We also recommend you to set up a Catch All address to avoid any loss of emails, even if you have missed creating some aliases or Group accounts. Once you have created all the accounts, you can change the MX Records of your domain.

The step by step instructions to add the MX records for some domain providers are available in the below links. Select your domain provider from the list, or follow the 'General instructions' which provides the guidelines for changing MX Records. You can also get the help of your domain registrar, in case you are unable to do the changes on your own. You can send them the MX record details of Zoho and ask them to update it for your domain.

Instructions to change MX Records for some popular DNS providers:

Verify MX records:

MX records are special type of DNS records. Like any other entry in the DNS, MX records also get updated across the DNS Servers based on the TTL set for the record.  You can check the MX records of your domain from the third party tool www.mxtoolbox.com, by providing your domain name. The emails will be delivered to the server or the record which has the lowest number set for the priority value. In case you have a record other than the recommended values, the emails may not be delivered to your Zoho Mail account, even if you have set up everything else properly.

Sometimes the DNS changes may take even up to 48 hours depending on the DNS Server caching. Hence we suggest you to check the MX records of the domain using the third party tools liks www.mxtoolbox.com to confirm correct entries. Once you see the correct MX records, you can send a test mail to your domain based account to confirm email delivery.
